Have you ever seen a social media post about #NationalDonutDay (June 3rd) or #NationalBestFriendsDay (June 8th)? Chances are you’ve heard about various promotions different brands are running, like offering free ice cream on #NationalIceCreamDay (July 24th). A lot of these holidays were even created by companies to drive awareness and sales of their products.
There are fun and creative ways to play into these days with very little or no cost. Perhaps you can advertise that you’re offering free donuts to clients on #NationalDonutDay, or run a refer-a-friend promotion on #NationalBestFriendsDay. Joining in on these trending conversations will help show your posts to new audiences as well as keep your current clients in the loop, which will make them want to come in and join the fun!
It’s also important to think about larger holidays and seasons, as these will be trending on social media as well. New Year’s Eve is a day where you may already be booked to capacity, but you can still encourage your clients to post (and ask if you can post) pictures of their looks to show your social audience.
The best way to execute this is to plan in advance. You can find a calendar of these “holidays” here. Don’t feel like you need to participate in every holiday—do only what feels natural. If your salon and clients are fun and silly you may want to celebrate “Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day” on April 16th, but if that doesn’t seem like it would fit in with your salon, then don’t do it! The most important thing on all social media is to be authentic. Do what feels right and be genuine: your followers will start to engage.
