It seems like every business, big or small, has a loyalty program these days. With so much competition to win over consumers, it makes sense to offer incentives that will keep them coming back.

One of the most important aspects of any loyalty program is, of course, the rewards! Which types of rewards will benefit both your clients and your bottom line?

Discounts are the oldest trick in the book when it comes to reward programs. However, they are not as influential today as they once were. Before discounting, think about what truly motivates your target demographic. This type of reward will not persuade all generations equally. Providing discounts to the right customer (versus every customer) will bring more long-term value to your business.

Who doesn’t love a good freebie? Provide deluxe samples, travel sizes, or add-on services that will drive specific initiatives. Switch up these rewards seasonally to support your salon focuses. Consider going beyond the typical “birthday discount” by creating custom rewards each year. A unique service offered exclusively on birthdays, or a special gift by a local artisan will really help you stand out from competitors.

Experiences

Experiential shopping continues to grow in popularity and importance. Many retailers are taking note of this, and are shifting their rewards towards experiences rather than product. Clients want to connect with brands in a more meaningful way. Capitalize on this by rewarding them with invitations to private events, pre-launch access, and custom VIP services.
