Keep Up!

June 30, 2021

It is safe to say that over the past year, the consumption of social media skyrocketed! As personal and work lives transitioned to online overnight, social media became THE tool for connection.

In fact, on average, adults in the US spent over 7 hours per day using digital media of some form over the last year – a 15% increase from 2019! (Insider Intelligence)

With this increase comes the inevitable introduction of new platforms, new trends, and changes in audience habits. So, what does that mean for your business? The need to adapt your strategy to stand out from the crowd and resonate with your audience. In other words….to keep up!

It’s time to take a step back and assess your social media strategy with fresh, 2021 eyes! When doing so, keep these key trends in mind:

As the old saying goes… it is all about quality over quantity. With so many platforms and millions of posts per day – the quantity aspect is covered! What is important is to ensure you are posting QUALITY content that offers VALUE. To do this:

  1. Make sure you know your audience (check out this post here Do You Know Your Audience? – Moroccanoil Beautiful Business)
  2. Identify the posts your audience engage with (like, comment and save) and use this as your benchmark
  3. Don’t be shy to test! Content creation is a little bit of trial and error! Take the time to find what works.

Amongst other things, 2020 and 2021 bought TikTok, Instagram reels, and Lives aplenty! In other words….easily digestible and dynamic content.

As the tendency to scroll endlessly through different feeds increases, your content needs to communicate value QUICKLY without the audience having to spend too much time looking at it. Think:

  1. Videos or gifs
  2. Infographics
  3. Eye-catching imagery

Social media has quickly evolved to become another e-commerce platform. With Facebook and Instagram shoppable posts, consumers can buy a product without even leaving the app.

Consider integrating this feature into your platforms! For consumers, it equals convenience. For you – it provides new opportunities to sell online without necessarily investing in an e-commerce store!

Whilst the ever-evolving world of social media can seem daunting, keeping your content interesting, value-based, and making it work for your business and your audience is the recipe for success!
