We all know Instagram is a powerful tool – especially right now! There is so much information on the how, when, and why you should be using it, so we have broken down some frequently asked questions with Moroccanoil’s Digital Education Manager (and resident Instagram guru!)
Q: Is having more followers the most important metric?
A: No! Followers and likes are what I call vanity metrics. What is important is how much your followers are engaging with your content. You can have thousands of followers but if only 5% of them are interacting with what you post, then having all those followers doesn’t hold much value. With that in mind – always look to add value for your audience so they are compelled to stop scrolling and interact with your content.
Q: How often should I post?
A: The rule of thumb is to post 1x per day. However, I’m a firm believer in quality over quantity. Setting a schedule for yourself is crucial. This will keep you organized and ensure you’re not scrambling for content last minute!
Q: Should I be using the Story feature more often?
A: Absolutely! You want to utilize every feature of Instagram for maximum impact. You can even use stories as a way to stay top of mind when you don’t necessarily have anything to post on your feed. They are a great way to highlight your salon culture and bring people behind the scenes.
A simple way to put it: stories represent your personality whereas your feed is your more polished work.
Q: What is the best day and time to post?
A: Think of your audience and when they will most likely be online. This varies from industry to industry but Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays are generally what is recommended. Think lunchtimes and early evenings!
