Fall is my favorite time of year. The changing leaves, crisp air, pumpkin lattés, and of course, a brand new style or fresh look for the new season. People want a pick-me-up after a lazy summer, and what better way than with a new cut and style? Our clothes this season come back to textures and velvety softness, and hairstyles will follow suit.
From stretched-out waves to classic buns, ponytails and braids, the best thing is they are all attainable! It is big this season to let hair speak for itself, keeping it natural and off the face to play up your client’s natural beauty. One way to achieve this is by creating waves and stretching them out before they cool, or brushing out curls to make them look more lived-in.
The buns this season have a classic vintage look, with some deconstruction that makes them modern-looking. Ponytails are great in the nape with a deep side part that adds softness. Braids are romantic and easy—leave some pieces out around the face for more of an undone feel. Finish any style with a hair band, and voilà!—you have completed your look!
We are seeing a lot of texture in both color and cut. Whether your client can rock a pixie (make sure it’s youthful and edgy) or prefers long layers, the big hit is making it look airy without having too many different lengths. Think of a very natural, ’70s vibe. Keep layers so subtle that it looks like one length.
This fall is all about enhancing what your clients already have. What features do you want to bring out? What length looks better on each face shape? What texture will soften or strengthen their individuality? That advice will last much longer than any seasonal trend.
