The most helpful piece of advice I’ve received in regard to my business is to know who my ideal client is. Now, you may be thinking “But everyone is my ideal client!” or “I already know my clients!”
If I told you that you can control who sits down in your chair simply by writing down your dream client profile, would you do it? Taking just 10 minutes out of your day to do this will help you attract that perfect client.
Your Client Profile
They need to have a name, age, career, hobbies, car, pets, a family, etc. Ask yourself the following:
- Where do they hang out?
- What kind of family do they have?
- What does their social life look like?
Be as specific as possible.
Example: Emily Treply is a 28-year-old University of Colorado alumnus. She does marketing for a tech start-up and usually has her hair in a bun. If she’s feeling super sassy, she’ll put on a little mascara. Even though her daily makeup and grooming routine is pretty minimal, she is obsessed with keeping her hair and skin in its best condition.
My actual profile of Emily could go on for days, including her hobbies and other extracurricular activities.
What’s the point of writing down all this information? What does it tell you about her? She is a low-maintenance person, but she takes care of herself. She would be a great sell for shampoo, conditioner and skin care.
How and why are we going to use this profile of Emily? Every time I post something on Facebook or Instagram, I’m going to ask myself “Is this what Emily wants to see on her feed?” When we re-branded and changed our logo, it was because our old one wasn’t something that Emily was into. For every decision you make in regard to your business, you need to consider how it will affect Emily.
Spend 10 minutes on this simple exercise and watch every new customer become your dream client!
